4 Mini Movie Reviews

I'm thinking of developing a new movie rating system, using a certain number of Z's, which reflects the number of times I fell asleep!

Ahhh, the "High School Musical" trilogy. I'm not exactly a fan, but I like to keep up with the youngster's interests, so I went with my sister and girls to see this theater release. The previous films were shown on the Disney Channel, but hey, I'm willing to put more money in Mickey's pocket. I liked #2 better, but found this one better then #1. Unfortunately, most the songs sounded alike, and it was corny and sappy, but we did get the two leads to FINALLY kiss, much to the thrill of the young girls sitting behind me. Characters that may become the next generation were introduced. Keep the franchise going Mr. Mouse. I only fell asleep twice during this one, but the nieces enjoyed it and little "K" actually had tears in her eyes at the end. ZZ

I thought that the movie "Twilight" was going to be about vampires and have teenagers in it. However, this movie is about teenagers and has vampires in it. It amused me at how the teenyboppers in the audience screamed and swooned when the young actor Robert Pattinson first appeared on the screen. He had a James Dean-ish brooding quality. I liked the movie, it was heavy on the teen drama and light on the gore. I didn't see one fang. And who knew that there are "good" vampires and "bad" vampires? And what a nice vampire family: They play baseball and are vegetarians (only drink animal blood, not human). It kept me awake, with curiosity of what would happen next. The film is based on a popular teen novel, and the leads already signed on for the sequel. 0-Z

"Slumdog Millionaire" is one of those "sleeper" films that has grown in popularity by word of mouth, and good reviews. It is the story of a young man who grew up encountering very unfortunate situations, that eventually lead him to a chance of a lifetime to win a fortune and allow him to face his destiny at the age of 18. The epic story is told mostly in flashbacks, and there are a lot of subtitles. This touching movie kept my interest throughout, and I didn't fall asleep once. 0-Z

I'm not a James Bond fan, and have only seen one James Bond movie, the last previously released with Daniel Craig, who also stars in "Quantum of Solace". So maybe that's why I just didn't understand the plot, at all. I watched the movie, enjoying most of the action, good looking people, exotic settings, but I had no clue what was going on. I don't know why he did what he did, but Mr. Bond was busy, shooting, chasing, shagging (oh how British of me), killing, helping, hurting, disobeying and punching many people. I fell asleep about 3 times, during conversations that lost me. It wasn't a bad movie, but I did leave there wondering what the heck just happened! ZZZ
