Try This Riddle
Some say I'm their worst enemy,
Some say I'm their best friend.
Some use me in brevity,
You'll still pay for what I lend.
There's proof that I can even kill,
Too many take that path.
There's claim also that I can heal,
You'll have to do the math.
Yes, uses for me do abound,
You'll see me often, look around.

Who Will Solve the Riddle?
Before I came, confusion abounded.
I'm late, I'm late was frequently sounded.
I'm not average, but was based on a mean.
My size, in theory, is constant: fifteen.
I'm two dozen steps, again in theory.
But walk my length and you'd get weary.
I take half and quarter steps at times.
In reality, I don't follow the lines.
I shrink to nothing in two cold extremes.
Over a thousand miles wide in the betweens.

Too bad you she won't hear
The devil inside her
Is ready to burst
But lucky for you,
Of imps he's not the worst.

Easy Riddle for You Today
I drift forever with the current
Down these long canals they've made
Tame, yet wild, I run elusive
Multitasking to your aid.
Before I came, the world was darker
Colder, sometimes, rougher, true
But though I might make living easy,
I'm good at killing people too.

Multitasking to your aid.

South Dakota Trip Photos
My brother Mike and I just returned from a 2282 mile road trip to South Dakota. Despite some rain and snow, we had a great time.
Wall Drug, always an adventure!
I had to ride the giant Jackalope, didn't I?
Mike made a new friend.
So did I.

Back to Riddling
I can be huge,

I can be long like a sausage,

I might stay with you,
or I might travel for miles.
For those of few years,
I always bring smiles.

My niece Emma is on the Junior Varsity Cheerleading squad this year. Her school has a 5 & 6th grade football team that plays every Sunday. My sister Kathy is bringing her past cheering and coaching skills to help the girls out, and I'm happy to sit on the sidelines to take photos. Here are some pictures from today's game:
Looking good!
The football team tied up the game late in the 4th quarter, but was defeated in over-time, 20-13
The girls are working hard on perfecting their pyramid.
Kailey is learning fast, she'll be a great cheerleader in a few years.
Emma did a wonderful job, she's a real performance pro!

It Riddle Time!
I can take you to another place that's neat,
Or in a restaurant, hold your seat.
I can tell you about a company's numbers,
Or find a hotel room for your slumber.
If I'm thrown at you, you must have been really bad,
But if your enter my good side, you'll always be glad.
Policemen use me as you might tell,
They use me when you don't park so well!

Time to Riddle
I begin with 64,
But finish with just one.
While some may find me boring,
Many find me fun.
Lists look much like trees
With six levels in all.
People will play in pools,
While others play with a ball.
But finish with just one.
While some may find me boring,
Many find me fun.

Riddle for a June Tuesday
I quietly sit and wait
until someone moves my plate.
By then, it's much too late
and nothing will escape
the destruction I create
because I am now awake.
Sorry, but you can't close my gate.
My wrath you cannot sedate.
I'm not picky about what I take.
But, this promise I do make,
I always give back a rebate.
It's best if you leave in great haste,
because next it's you that I'll taste!
What am I?

Pictures from Easter Weekend
Easter Eve we did some egg coloring.
"E" getting fancy with multiple colors.
"K" making a pink egg...her signature color.
"J" drawing a face on his egg.
The production team.
Kathy joins the fun.
The finished products. Very Egg-citing!
Easter Sunday at Mom and Dad's house.
Uncle Mike with "E", "K" & "J"
Posing with Uncle Bob and Auntie Dawn
Looks who is sitting on the back of the couch.
Everyone smile!
Kathy and the kiddies.
It was a nice day out, so we hid eggs in my parent's yard.
"J" counting them up.
"K" on the hunt.
"E" found one.
Checking the treasures.
The five of us "kids" doing the traditional stair picture.
"A" on the look out for more eggs.
"D" finds an egg.
Checking the loot!

The Riddler is Back
I'm often seen around a lot, referred to many ways,
See me black and you may find misfortune haunts your days.
Tell a thing, that should have been kept quiet, to all around,
Then look inside the sack, there I'm no longer to be found.
Nosiness, prying, snooping, leaves me fearing, full of dread,
For all these things are likely to see me soon lying dead.
These clues combined should start to give a picture, an idea,
Of who or what I am, so can you tell me? Is it clear?
See me black and you may find misfortune haunts your days.
Tell a thing, that should have been kept quiet, to all around,
Then look inside the sack, there I'm no longer to be found.

And the Nominees are....
I squeaked it under the wire, but I finally saw all five of the Academy Award nominated films as I traditionally do before the award show airs.
Here are my opinions and predictions for Sunday night's Oscars:
THE READER
Of the five films, this is my least favorite. The characters were blah, I didn't feel much emotion for either. Uneven film, wasn't terrible, just not great. Kate Winslet is up for best actress, which I believe she will win. She did do an outstanding job as the post WWII heartless and clueless older German woman who has a brief affair with a much younger man that effects his entire life. I'd give it a 4% chance of winning for best film. Not gonna happen.
FROST/NIXON
Ron Howard did a fine job of directing this interesting take on the glimpse behind the scenes of the inter working of David Frost and Richard Nixon's cat and mouse game. Had some slow moments, but Frank Langella did an outstanding job of presenting a very human Richard Nixon. I'll give it a 10% shot at winning.
MILK
To be honest, I never even heard of Harvey Milk or his gay right activism in the 1970's. So it was interesting to see how the last few years of his life played out. This movie just edged out Frost/Nixon on my list. It felt like it flowed better. Sean Penn stole the show with his portrayal. I predict he will win the Best Actor Oscar. I give the film an 11% chance at winning the big one.
THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON
Very good movie. I was fascinated throughout, never knowing where Benjamin's life was going. He was born an old man and got younger throughout his life. The makeup effects are sure to win an award. Brad Pitt did a wonderful job, but he is up against some very heavy competition. I'd give it a 37% chance to take home the statue. This film came in a close second, and could very well take home the Oscar for best picture, but all the buzz is about the next movie.
SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE
An excellent, unique and interesting movie. Watching the flashbacks of the life of a contestant on India's "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" was intriguing. Putting together bits and pieces of the life of a "Slumdog" all came together in a climatic ending. Danny Boyle may just pull it off and win the best director honors. I'd give the film a 38% shot at winning for Best Picture.
So here are my predictions for the major Oscar awards:
Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire
Best Actor: Sean Penn (Milk)
Best Actress: Kate Winslet (The Reader)
Best Director: Danny Boyle (Slumdog)
Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger (Dark Night)
Supporting Actress: Taraji P. Henson (Benjamin)
If I don't see you on the red carpet, maybe I'll catch you at the after party!
