Kolachies are a traditional pastry that my family enjoys. It takes a bit of work, and they are made (usually by me) for special occasions. This past weekend we celebrated my brother Mike's and my Mom's birthdays, so it was the perfect time for some Kolachies.
My nieces have helped me make them for a few years, but until this year, the help was more of me watching over them nervously putting the filling on and letting them play with some dough.
This year however, they stepped it up and really did a fine job of helping. They did most everything: From rolling the dough, cutting the circles, putting them on the tray, making the "extra special Nana Rose three finger indent", putting on the filling, removing the finished product from the pan, putting on the powder sugar, and putting them in the containers. Of course, after the clean up (that included letting them WASH MY FLOOR after they begged me to do so) we had a taste test. They were delicious! Here are some photos of the fun evening, followed by some pictures from the birthday party.
AND A SPECIAL HAPPY BIRTHDAY TODAY TO MY BROTHER MIKE!
