Word of the week

I abjure the fact that I am going to have to use my own vocabulary words in my posts! It just may become difficult, but I'm sure my clever readers will contribute to its use...right???

Continuing the "100 words every high school grad should know", here is this week's word:

TAUTOLOGY

tau·tol·o·gy [taw-tol-uh-jee]

–noun, plural -gies. 1. needless repetition of an idea, esp. in words other than those of the immediate context, without imparting additional force or clearness, as in “widow woman.”

2. an instance of such repetition.

3. Logic. a. a compound propositional form all of whose instances are true, as “A or not A.”

b. an instance of such a form, as “This candidate will win or will not win.”

Webkinz

It seems that all the rage among the 1st to 4th grade population is WEBKINZ. They are stuffed animals that "come to life" on the WEB. You purchase an animal, name him or her, and then use a secret code that comes with it to bring it to life in cyberland.

You are able to give your pet a home, furniture, food, toys etc. You make fake money by playing games, of which you use to buy fake things. Not only can you compete for fake money prizes against others, you can interact with them and communicate. (The "others" aren't fake, niece E has friends from school that she had met up with via the site.)

My nieces are very much into this. To check it out click here

Of course, they offer many different types of amimals so the youngsters want to collect them all (along with the trading cards).

I was talked into purchasing one myself, so I could play along with the nieces. Here is my new pet beagle, who of course, is named Maverick. Sad to say, I haven't been on the site since I first signed on, and last week I had my niece E check on Mav. (I thought I had starved him!). She said that he was just hungry, and gave hime some tastey fake treats. I certainly hope that he doesn't end up on virtual puppy skid-row due to my neglect!

So if you have a primary school aged child, or just want to act like a child, this is the newest cyberspace thing to do!

Here is this week's riddle, for your brain's pleasure:

The Lo-down is back!

After a brief absence, the Lo-down is back. I was having what my grandma used to call the "blues" and I was kind of unmotivated to post and really didn't think that it was being read by anyone but my parents and sister. (Hi parents and sister). But within the last two days, two people have mentioned my blog and they do read it (Hi two people, you know who you are!). So with a readership of at least five, I'll try harder to keep up with the blogging world. Feel free to post a comment, it's very easy to do.

Look for tomorrow's riddle to post around 4:00pm cst.

And here is a picture of the official mascot of the Lo-down Blog.
